X-ray properties of symbiotic stars

60% of the known galactic symbiotic stars are sufficiently X-ray bright to be detected in pointed ROSAT PSPC observations. We present observations of 16 symbiotic stars. We encounter three classes of pulse height distibutions: [FORMULA]) supersoft emission from the atmosphere of the hot star, [FORMULA]) emission from an optically thin plasma with a temperature of a few 106  K, and [FORMULA]) even harder emission, as from an accreting neutron star. In the present Paper we analyze the objects of type [FORMULA] in more detail. We find plasma temperatures ranging from [FORMULA]  K to [FORMULA]  K and luminosities from [FORMULA]   [FORMULA] to 0.4  [FORMULA].
