Abstract

Using recent observations of the kinematics of the disk stars the dynamical state of the disk of NGC 488 is discussed. The disk is shown to be dynamically `cool', so that NGC 488 cannot have experienced many - even minor - mergers in the past.

Key words: galaxies: individual: NGC 488 - galaxies: interactions - galaxies: kinematics and dynamics
