The Galactic X-ray halo

Abstract

We analyzed the intensity distribution of the [FORMULA] keV and [FORMULA] keV diffuse soft X-ray background by correlating the ROSAT all-sky survey with the Leiden/Dwingeloo H survey. We found that the [FORMULA] keV and [FORMULA] keV intensity distributions can be modelled by a contribution from an isothermal (k [FORMULA]) flattened X-ray halo superposed on the radiation from an extragalactic X-ray background. The exponential scale height of the X-ray halo is about 4.4 kpc and its radial scale length is about [FORMULA] ; the X-ray halo luminosity, [FORMULA], is about [FORMULA].
