Appendix A:

Here we calculate the dimension of the ionised sphere due to X-radiation from the black hole for several nHe, using the work of Kallman and McCray(1982). We use the X-ray luminosity of the black hole as L=1038 ergs s-1. The dimension of the ionised sphere is given R2=L/nH [FORMULA]. From Kallman and McCray (1982) [FORMULA][FORMULA]100 for fully ionised helium. We use nH=10nHe. The values of R for several nHe are given in Table 1. The value of the electron scattering optical depth due to the ionised sphere [FORMULA]=2nHeR. In case of R greater than x1, x1 is used in place of R in the expression for [FORMULA].
