Received 8 May 2000 / Accepted 4 August 2000 Abstract Further observations, using the University of Durham Mark 6 imaging telescope, have been made of the X-ray binary Cen X-3, which has been previously reported as a very high energy (VHE) gamma ray emitter. The results of these observations are reported and show that VHE gamma rays are emitted in all epochs when we have observed this object. No modulation of the VHE emission is seen, at either the pulsar or orbital period. Models of VHE emission from X-ray binaries are assessed in the light of these observations.
