Received 3 December 1999 / Accepted 4 July 2000 Abstract We numerically study the collapse behavior of self-generated magnetic fields described by nonlinear coupling equations. The results show that magnetic fields self-generated by transverse pumping plasmons may collapse, leading to an enhancement of the magnetic field of up to 250 - 500 Gauss in the range around 0.02 - 0.03 km, which corresponds to the inferred inhomogeneity small-scale fields in both the strength and scale in the solar corona.
