Astron. Astrophys. 317, 953-961 (1997) AcknowledgementsRobert D. Lunsford, George J. Zay, Ilkka Yrjölä, Istva'n Tepliczky, Marco Langbroek and Koen Miskotte kindly made observations available for analysis. The Fremont Peak Observatory Association (Frank Dibbel, Rick Morales, c.s.), and the Meteor Group Hawaii (Mike Morrow c.s.) participated in campaigns to monitor the Lyrid meteor stream in 1994 and 1995. An attempt to observe the kappa-Pavonid shower from South Africa was supported by the Meteor Section of ASSA (Tim Cooper c.s.). Mike Morrow and Tim Cooper were responsible for organising the local observers. I thank Janet Cooper for her generous hospitality in July of 1995. David F. Blake and David Morrison of NASA/Ames Research Center made these efforts possible. The paper benefited from discussions with Luke Dones and comments by Marco Langbroek, Ilkka Yrjölä, and the referee David Hughes. This work was supported by an award from the NASA/Ames Research Center Director's Discretionary Fund. PJ is with the SETI Institute. *) At the time of revising this manuscript, the alpha-Monocerotid shower had returned as predicted (e.g. reports in Marsden 1995).
