Abstract

We present an element-by-element analysis of the surface composition of [FORMULA] Pic (A5 V) based on high-resolution broad-band optical spectra. The abundances (relative to H) of C, Ca, Ti, Cr, Fe, Sr, and Ba are solar. Obviously [FORMULA] Pic does not show the ` [FORMULA] -Boo phenomenon'-the metal deficiency of certain cool A-type stars attributed to accreting circumstellar matter.

Key words: Stars: abundances – atmospheres – formation – individual: Beta Pictoris – circumstellar matter
