Branching ratio measurement of N [FORMULA] inter-system lines, 2s 2p 3 5 S 2 - 2s 2 2p 2 3 P 2,1

Abstract

The N [FORMULA] inter-system lines, [FORMULA], at [FORMULA] and [FORMULA] in air have been observed in emission from a low-pressure inductively-coupled plasma. The measured ratio, [FORMULA], overlaps the most recent calculation at 2.44 (Brage et al. 1996). A realistic analysis of uncertainties, and comparison with other laboratory measurements which do not agree with each other, demonstrates the difficulty in obtaining a more precise measurement.
