Received 24 March 1997 / Accepted 15 April 1997 Abstract We apply the method of dynamical spectra in the case of a barred galaxy potential. We show its efficiency in detecting tiny ordered domains embedded in big chaotic seas. We can separate ordered from chaotic domains in the corotation region by integrating a number of orbits only for 10-20 orbital periods each. The method is more efficient than the use of the Poincaré section, while other methods require a much longer time. Our method of separation between ordered and chaotic orbits is useful when attacking the self-consistency problem in the corotation region of galaxies. Then we describe the differences between the dynamical spectra of orbits in a transition region from ordered to chaotic. Key words: galaxies: kinematics and dynamics Send offprint requests to: P.A.
