2. The sample

The database is composed of detached double-lined eclipsing binary systems having M and R determinations with an accuracy of 1-2% as well as photometry for each component of the system. The 53 stars in the sample, belonging to 30 binary systems, are listed in Table 5 of Paper I, together with a description of the spectral type distribution and the mass and evolutionary ranges covered. The empirical determinations of M, R and were taken from Andersen (1991), Nordström & Johansen (1994a, 1994b) and Clausen (1996).

Considering Strömgren's (1966) classification of stars in different regions of the HR diagram, the sample was divided into 22 stars in the early region, 6 stars in the intermediate region and 25 stars in the late region.
