On the stochastic gravitational radiation background produced by an ensemble of single neutron stars

Abstract

The possible stochastic background produced by single galactic neutron star is studied. The upper limit to this background independent of the NS ellipticities is derived. If [FORMULA] 0.1 of old neutron star population have a low surface magnetic field ([FORMULA] [FORMULA] G; from the beginning or due to field decay), this background may be detected by the advanced LIGO/VIRGO interferometers with a sensitivity of [FORMULA] [FORMULA] at 100 Hz during 1-year integration.
