7. Summary and conclusions

The ages found for the stars inside LMC 4 lie in the range of [FORMULA] Myr to [FORMULA] Myr without a visible correlation with the distance to the LMC 4 centre (see Table 4 and Fig. 3). This means that there must have been one triggering event for star formation inside the greatest SGS of the LMC with a diameter of [FORMULA] kpc, whereas at the rim of LMC 4 there is evidence for SSPSF (Petr et al. 1994; Petr 1994). Thus SSPSF can't be the creation mechanism of LMC 4 as claimed by the first models (see e.g. Dopita et al. 1985), even if one is able to find examples of SSPSF in this region on scales below [FORMULA] pc.
