Concluding remarksOur observations of an extended region in NGC 2023 around the exciting star HD 37903 show that strong emission of H2 forms a rather more extensive complex web of filamentary structure than previous high spatial resolution observations indicated (F94). Using the latest estimates of the VUV field of the exciting star, current PDR models faithfully reproduce the observed brightness in the H2 S(1) line, showing that material at a density of 105 cm-3 extends to distances of at least 0.25 pc from the exciting star.
