Proton impact excitation of the 1s22s2p 3P fine-structure transitions in the Be-like ions C III , N IV , and O V

Abstract

Cross sections and thermally averaged excitation rate coefficients are presented for proton impact excitations of the 1s22s2p 3P fine-structure transitions in the Be-like ions C III , N IV , and O V . The cross sections were calculated using a close-coupled impact parameter method that has been modified to include the higher lying levels of the triplet states of the 2p2, 2s3s, and 2s3d configurations. Excitation rate coefficients have been calculated using these cross-sections for a wide range of temperatures.
