Appendix A: coefficients of the stability equation

The coefficients of the stability equation (25) are determined by the equilibrium model (subscript "0") and thus are functions of the unperturbed arclength [FORMULA] or alternatively of the unperturbed horizontal distance [FORMULA]. In the latter case they read in detail:

with the path of the flux tube [FORMULA], [FORMULA], the cross-section [FORMULA], the sound speed [FORMULA], the Alfvén speed [FORMULA] and the tube speed [FORMULA], given by [FORMULA]. The subscript `e' corresponds to the external plasma. [FORMULA] denotes the density scale height, given by [FORMULA]. Note that [FORMULA] is a constant.
